How long is our waitlist?

Monarch House strives to reduce wait times for service across all disciplines offered. Waitlist times can vary across different disciplines, but on average, a spot for treatment should be offered within 2 weeks, if not sooner.

Do I need a diagnosis to access treatment?

A diagnosis is not required to access services through Monarch House. Monarch House does offer diagnostic services should your family be seeking a private assessment.

How long will my child be in treatment for?

Service length will vary by child and need. Your clinical team will be open and honest with you about the need to continue services or discuss discharge when appropriate.

What is Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA)?

Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) studies behaviour and learning and seeks to understand how behaviour impacts the environment, how the environment impacts behaviour, and how learning takes place.

ABA Therapy focuses on teaching skills and reducing barriers to learning (e.g., effectively reducing any challenging behaviour or barriers that are impacting an individual's ability to function independently and successfully).

What is Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)?

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) is the study of speech, fluency, swallowing and feeding, and all of the mechanisms of speech and language with therapeutic applications and augmentative measures to help people with speech disorders speak and communicate better.

What is Occupational Therapy (OT)?

Occupational Therapy (OT) is a form of therapy for those recuperating from physical or mental illness that encourages rehabilitation through the performance of activities required in daily life.

What is Psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a way to help people with a broad variety of mental illnesses and emotional difficulties. Psychotherapy can help eliminate or control troubling symptoms so a person can function better and can increase well-being and healing.  

Problems helped by psychotherapy include:

• difficulties in coping with daily life
• the impact of trauma
• medical illness or loss (like the death of a loved one)
• and specific mental disorders, like depression or anxiety
• gender identity issues.

What do interdisciplinary services look like?

Interdisciplinary Services are professionals from various disciplines (you can see the descriptions above) who collaborate to address an individual’s needs.

An interdisciplinary team is not just a group of experts implementing separate services with an individual. The team complements one another's expertise and actively coordinates to work toward shared goals.

What do treatment sessions look like for Applied Behaviour Analysis?

Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Occupational Therapy (OT) and Behaviour services can be delivered individually or in a group depending on the individual’s needs.

• Comprehensive/Intensive Sessions:
  - typically range between 60 to 180 minutes in length
  - usually occur on a frequency of 3-5 times per week
  - and are offered Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
• Individual Discipline or group sessions
  - typically range between 1 hour - 90 Minutes
  - usually occur on a frequency of 1 time per week
  - and are offered Monday-Friday from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
• Sessions involve using your child’s motivation and strengths to teach skills identified in service goals.
• Your child will be assigned a BCBA, SLP or OT or a Therapy Assistant who will implement treatment goals regularly.
• Goals are set for each child and/or the group (if relevant) based on skills assessment results and input from your family’s priorities.
• Information is collected on your child’s progress for each goal and regularly monitored to evaluate whether teaching strategies are effective or whether changes need to be made to ensure your child is successful.

What do treatment sessions look like for Mental Health Services?

Psychotherapy services can be delivered individually or in a group depending on the client's needs.

• Sessions are typically once per week ranging from 30 to 90 minutes, either online or in-person.
• Sessions are offered Monday - Friday between 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.
• Therapy involves:
• Formal and informal assessments
• Psychoeducation
• Developing personal goals
• Using various Therapy Methods including:
  - cognitive behavioural therapy
  - dialectical behaviour therapy
  - emotion-focused therapy
  - solution-focused therapy
• Goals are set for each child and/or the group (if relevant) based on skills assessment results and input from your family’s priorities.
